Designer Information - Alex Monroe
Alex Monroe creates beautiful handmade jewellery inspired by nature and wildlife. Established in 1989 Alex founded his first studio in south London designing and making jewellery. Since its conception the Alex Monroe brand has gone from strength to strength and his pieces are now sold the world over with waiting lists for his classic designs. One of Alexs major world markets is Japan; they love his tiny, delicate jewellery.
2008 has been an exciting year for Alex Monroe.
The Victoria and Albert museum opened their new jewellery gallery and Alex was commissioned to create a design to commemorate the event. Producing a stunning limited edition heart locket with a gem studded love bird, Alexs design instantly sold out.
The prestigious UK Jewellery Awards were presented in May 2008 with Alex being named designer of the year. The highest accolade that he could receive Alex was, unsurprisingly, very pleased. The judges presented the award with a unanimous decision, stating that "His Quality is perfect and his style is so consistent."
Alex then cemented his popularity with a special commission from the British Legion who approached him to design a commemorative poppy brooch. His final 18ct gold and black diamond poppy was stunning and the finished piece was auctioned off to raise money for the charity. The winner was based in Australia so the poppy travelled the world! The British Legion teamed up with celebrities Pixie Geldof, Geri Halliwell, Dame Judy Dench and Danii Minogue who all sported the brooch to various events around London before the auction to raise awareness.
These leading ladies are not the only celebrities who have taken a shine to Alexs designs. He has been making jewellery for Thandie Newton, Lisa Snowdon, Laura Bailey, Zoe Ball, Jo Whiley, Amy Winehouse, Katie White from the Ting Tings, Ida Maria and Abi Harding from The Zutons.
